Meet the Owner / Director of RTS Dance Haven

Spencer Byrnes

Dance has been an important part of my life for many years, and creating a studio of my own has been a dream built from my love of movement, performance, teaching, and community. I wanted to create a studio where dancers of all ages and experience levels can feel welcomed, supported, challenged, and encouraged to be themselves.

Run the Show Dance Haven was created with the belief that dance is about so much more than learning choreography. It is about building confidence, creating meaningful connections, discovering your individuality, and having a place where you can truly “Run the Show”. As the owner, I’m committed to creating a positive studio environment where every dancer has the opportunity to grow—not only as a dancer, but as a person.

My Dance Experience

I started dance when I was 7 in a recreational 5-8 year old Hip Hop class. From there, I expanded into many different recreational and competitive styles - Lyrical, Contemporary, Ballet, Tap, Acro, Musical Theater, Jazz Fusion, Breakdance, Jazz Fusion, Modern, and Latin Jazz - in a solos, duos, trios, small groups, large groups, and productions. I have had the pleasure of dancing/teaching at Aspire Dance Center in Oxford, Mass Best Academy of Dance in Webster, and Silver City Dance Center in Taunton.

My experience in dance has given me a strong appreciation for both the technical and creative sides of movement. Throughout my time as a dancer, I have had the opportunity to train, perform, learn choreography, and experience the dedication that goes into becoming a well-rounded dancer. These experiences have shaped the way I view dance education and the type of environment I want to create for my students. As an instructor, my goal is to make every class a balance of technique, creativity, challenge, and fun. I believe dancers learn best when they feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and pushing themselves outside of their comfort zones. At Run the Show Dance Haven, I want students to develop strong technical foundations while also discovering their own performance style, confidence, and artistic voice. My teaching philosophy centers around meeting dancers where they are and helping them identify where they want to go next. Whether a student is taking their very first dance class, returning to dance after years away, preparing for a competition, or working toward advanced training, every dancer deserves instruction that helps them feel capable and valued.

My Educational Experience

My educational background is rooted in psychology, mental health, and an understanding of people and communities. I am currently completing my Bachelor of Arts in Mental Health Psychology at Southern New Hampshire University this November, with additional coursework in Business and Theater. Throughout my studies, I have developed a strong foundation in areas including general psychology, personality, cognition, research methods, psychopathology, community psychology, human development, and mental health. My academic work has taught me to look beyond surface-level behaviors and consider the individual, social, environmental, and cultural factors that influence a person's experiences. I plan to continue my education through graduate-level study, allowing me to further develop my knowledge and skills in psychology and human-centered work.

A particularly meaningful part of my education has been my focus on LGBTQ+ Studies and queer health. Through coursework exploring LGBTQ+ communities, identities, health, social experiences, and advocacy, I have developed a deeper understanding of the importance of creating environments where people feel respected, represented, and safe to be themselves. This perspective is something I carry with me into my vision for Run the Show Dance Haven. I believe a dance studio should be a place where every dancer can walk through the doors knowing they belong, regardless of their background, identity, experience level, or goals. My education in psychology, mental health, LGBTQ+ Studies, and business allows me to approach studio ownership from multiple perspectives—combining my passion for dance with an understanding of people, community, leadership, and the importance of building an inclusive environment where dancers can grow both on and off the stage.
